If you are not sure which size to buy, the 20 FT container is usually the answer. It is the format that most sites can accept, most budgets can absorb, and most storage requirements fit into. Externally it measures twenty feet by eight feet, with standard height units at around eight feet six inches and high cube versions at nine feet six.

Before you order a 20 FT unit

  • Choose high cube if you intend to rack the interior or store tall items. The additional internal height is roughly one foot.

  • Allow a clear run of around sixty to seventy feet for the delivery vehicle to position and offload.
  • Match the condition grade to the job. Used units are structurally sound and cost less; one-trip units look far better and hold their value.

How much can a 20 FT container hold?

Around 160 square feet of floor and roughly 1,170 cubic feet of internal volume on a standard height unit. As a rule of thumb, that is the contents of a two to three bedroom home, or around ten standard pallets floor-loaded.

Should I buy standard height or high cube?

High cube if you are racking, storing tall equipment or converting the unit. Standard height if headroom is not an issue or if there is a height restriction at the placement point.

What is the difference between a one-trip and a used 20 FT container?

A one-trip unit has carried a single cargo load from the factory and looks close to new. A used unit has been in service for years and will show dents and surface rust while remaining wind and watertight. The price difference is significant and both are listed in the catalog.

Can a 20 FT container be delivered to a residential address?

Usually, provided a large delivery vehicle can reach the placement point and there is room to manoeuvre. Overhead cables, tight gateways and soft ground are the usual obstacles. Check the site preparation guidance before ordering.
