About refrigerated containers
A refrigerated container is an insulated steel box with an integrated refrigeration unit built into one end. It holds a set temperature independently of the weather outside, which makes it useful for far more than shipping: seasonal cold storage, food production overflow, pharmaceutical and laboratory stock, floristry, brewing, events catering and any operation whose chilled capacity fluctuates through the year.
Reefers need a power supply. Most units run on three-phase power, and the requirement is specific to the machine fitted, so confirm the electrical detail on the product page and with your electrician before ordering. Units are supplied with the refrigeration machinery inspected as part of our preparation routine, but they are not new appliances unless the product page says so.

Buying considerations
What to check before ordering
- Confirm the power requirement and supply arrangement before ordering. Three-phase is common and is not always available on site.
- Check the temperature range on the product page. Chilled and frozen duty are not the same specification.
- Allow airflow clearance around the machinery end and keep the condenser accessible for servicing.
- Plan for ongoing maintenance. Refrigeration machinery has service intervals that a dry container does not.
- Consider a dual-temperature unit if you need chilled and frozen space at the same time.

Frequently asked
Do refrigerated containers need three-phase power?
Most do. The exact requirement depends on the refrigeration unit fitted, and it is described on the individual product page. Confirm the supply with a qualified electrician before you order.
Can a reefer be used as an insulated store without running the unit?
Yes, and it is common. With the machinery switched off you still have a heavily insulated box, which is useful for temperature stability even without active cooling. If you never intend to run it, an insulated container is usually the better purchase.
Are these new machines?
Condition varies by unit and is stated on the product page. Some are used units that have been tested; others are newer stock. Refrigeration machinery is inspected as part of our preparation routine before dispatch.
What temperature can they hold?
Ranges vary by machine, but reefer units are typically capable of both chilled and frozen duty. The specification for each unit is shown on its product page.
