What this condition means

In the container trade, new almost always means one trip. Containers are built at the factory and then carry a single load of cargo on their first voyage, because shipping a container full is cheaper than shipping it empty. What arrives is a container that has been in service for weeks rather than years: clean paint, an unmarked plywood floor, tight rubber seals and hardware that has barely been used.

A genuinely unused container, built and sold without a cargo movement, is also available in some ranges and is described as new build. Either way, this is the grade to buy if appearance matters, if the container will be seen by customers, if you intend to convert it, or if you want the longest possible service life before maintenance becomes a factor.

Does new mean unused?
